Guide Sleep – Sleep Problems

If you have worries, you sleep badly: In bed in the evening you brood for a long time. After hours you finally fall asleep. You wake up in the middle of the night.

It takes a while for you to dawn away. Early in the morning you are already awake again – hours before the alarm clock should ring.

Everybody experiences such stress phases: Work is getting too much for you, things are going badly in your relationship, worries about money are pressing.

Sleep disturbances can have different causes – from environmental noise at night to stress at work or in the family and a generally incorrect approach to sleep. Whatever the cause, the result is the same: poor sleep.

Bad sleep phases are usually over after one month at the latest. Sometimes, however, the sleep problems take on a life of their own. Then you lie awake at night and no longer worry about your finances or your partner, but about falling asleep itself.

This can lead to a vicious circle: When you can no longer sleep, you become angry or desperate. This makes you restless and handicapped Whoever has worries, sleeps badly: In the evening in bed you brood for a long time.

Sleep disorders are often learned

If you have been sleeping poorly almost every night for more than four weeks, you should think about seeing a doctor. In the case of such chronic sleep disorders, the doctor will first check whether a physical or mental illness is behind it.

If he has ruled out such causes, he will diagnose what is known as primary insomnia – an insomnia that cannot be traced back to any other disease or disorder.

Experts suspect that such sleep problems can be traced back to incorrect behavior and inappropriate handling of stress. Bad habits and unresolved stress literally make the mind and body forget how to sleep.

Women and older people suffer more often from chronic insomnia than men and boys. The basic rule is: sleep becomes easier after the age of 40.

This is why older people complain about problems particularly frequently. In women, fluctuating hormone levels can also disturb sleep.

Symptoms

If you sleep normally, you won’t sleep like a rock. It is not a problem if you occasionally lie awake for a long time or wake up from time to time.

For example, do not expect to fall asleep immediately. Hardly anyone closes their eyes and sleeps on the spot. Lying awake for half an hour before sleep comes is not unusual.

Even light sleep is normal. During the night, periods of deep sleep alternate with periods of light sleep. People with sensitive sleep often feel like they are awake during these phases – even though they were actually asleep.

Don’t be alarmed if you wake up at night. Many people interrupt their sleep several times – usually without realizing it. If you are consciously aware of what box mattress is the best and know that these short waking phases, you can get the feeling that you have not slept at all in between – you have been fast asleep.

Don’t be surprised if you sleep worse after drinking wine, beer or schnapps. A small amount is enough to disturb your night’s rest.

Alcohol shortens certain sleep phases, the so-called REM phases. This is the time of colorful dream images. Because alcohol disturbs this phase, people tend to wake up during the night, especially in the second half of the night.

Then many people can no longer fall asleep. Those who have difficulty sleeping should therefore avoid it.
